Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS)

A Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS) is a critical infrastructure in healthcare facilities designed to provide a safe, convenient, and cost-effective system for the provision of medical gases to clinical areas.

1. It replaces the need for heavy, cumbersome cylinders at every bedside.
2. Here are the technical and operational details of how these systems function:

a. Core Components of MGPSAn MGPS is divided into four main segments: sources, distribution, monitoring, and terminal units.A. Source Equipment (Plant Rooms)Oxygen ($O_2$): Usually supplied via a Vacuum Insulated Evaporator (VIE) (a large cryogenic liquid tank), a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) plant, or a manifold of high-pressure cylinders.Medical Air (4 Bar): Produced by medical-grade compressors.
b. It must be filtered, dried, and cooled to ensure it is free of oil, moisture, and bacteria.4Surgical Air (7 Bar): A higher-pressure air used mainly to power pneumatic surgical tools in Operating Theaters.Nitrous Oxide ($N_2O$): Supplied via cylinder manifolds; used primarily for anesthesia.
